VALENCIA, Spain, APRIL 28, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Parents should support the educational endeavours of educators in Christian schools, affirmed a Spanish cardinal.
Cardinal Agustín García-Gasco, archbishop of Valencia, wrote of the "urgency" of rediscovering "the importance and the beauty of the mission to educate" in his most recent weekly message.
The cardinal dedicated his message to the theme of education in preparation for the international congress dedicated to "Catholic Education for the 21st Century," which was organized by the St. Vincent Martyr Catholic University of Valencia.
Cardinal García-Gasco's preparatory message, titled "Love Is the Best Impulse for Knowledge," mentioned Benedict XVI's meeting in the United States with Catholic educators.
"The content of his address in directly linked to the aims of the international congress," the cardinal said.
The prelate stressed that "the service of truth, which the Church carries out in the midst of humanity, is principally fulfilled through personal encounters, knowledge and the Christian testimony." Still "every day, it is proven that the duty to educate is not easy."
Cardinal García-Gasco thus encouraged greater involvement "from the entire Christian community with the Christian educators, so as to guarantee that the power of the truth of God permeates every dimension of the institutions they serve."
