Satellite to Bring Papal Homily to Quebec

Source: Zenit

QUEBEC, APRIL 29, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Though Benedict XVI will not personally attend the Eucharistic congress in Canada, he will be present via satellite to give the homily at the closing Mass.

Cardinal Marc Ouellet, archbishop of Quebec, announced that the Pope will thus participate in the June 15-22 congress, focused on "The Eucharist, Gift of God for the Life of the World."

"With direct connection from Rome, Pope Benedict XVI will give a homily to the people present in the 'Statio Orbis,'" the cardinal announced. "In the center and the summit of the International Eucharistic Congress 2008, the expression 'Statio Orbis' refers to the communion of the universal Church in a single place. The population will be able to listen and see the discourse of the Holy Father thanks to a satellite transmission and giant screens."
Cardinal Jozef Tomko, the Pope's special envoy for the event, will preside over the Mass. It is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with a procession of 1,200 cardinals, bishops, priests and deacons.
